This is Cape Town. Looks nice to be sure, but is it the ideal location for a World Cup? There are already warnings from disgruntled elements that it will be too dangerous for fans and indeed the country has a high crime rate. I guess we'll see how things progress.
Rumor has it that Brazil will get 2014. Attending a World Cup in Brazil, the football Mecca. Nope, that can't be beat.
There is one place that deserves a bid, though. West Gate Park in Valley Stream. There was talk of having the 1999 Women's World Cup there, but the infrastructure proved an achilles heel. Nonsense I say. If we pick up those fallen branches and the odd broken glass shard, it's perfect for World Cup 2018, which is when the Cup should return to North America if I'm not mistaken. Ole!

Predictions:
The next World Cup held in Europe will be hosted by England, 2022.
The next North American representative will be Mexico, though that may not happen for quite a while as Brazil 2014 will be in the same hemisphere. Could be Mexico 2024.
The next Asian host will be China in 2018. Australia will give them a run for that bid though.
Brazil 2014 will be the greatest World Cup ever. How can it not be?
One prominent football writer, Paul Gardner, has suggested that the World Cup be given a permanent home in Mexico, as they have proven to be amazing hosts on two occasions. I'm still pissed that I didn't go to see any matches at USA 94 which were practically in my fuckin backyard.
2018 will all but certainly be in either China or England. Followed by whomever doesnt get it in 2018 (in 2022). I figure by 2026 it will be in India. Hopefully by then, they will know what Soccer is.
It will be in Iceland by 2022 it will be tropical.
Dan, you make a couple of very logical suggestions. Your Czech Republic suggestion is very good. However, I just do not think that other than Praha/Prague, the CRep. can handle a Cup.
Moreover, it's about money, and spreading the game. I figure either 2018 or 2022 (more probably '22) will have to be in either China or India (more realistically China).
So that leaves us with 2018 (or paradoxically 2022). Mike had suggested that England is due to host. As Roger our RA from Frosh year would say "I don't know about that".
A "group-host" situation where the CRep. as well as a couple of other small Eastern-European states might be a good idea.
I'm willing to bet anyone on this board 10 dollars that England hosts in 2022. C'mon, I dare you.
Actually the Czech Rep. is a novel and reasonable suggestion, either alone or in tandem as Jeetan suggested.
Also agreed with Dan on Australia. They are perfect for the cup and already hosted a great Olympics.
I do feel that England have to be the next European host. They lost out to Germany for 2006 and since they last hosted(1966) all of the other European football powers have hosted: Spain, Italy, France, Germany. There'll be uproar if they don't get it.
I attended a league game in Australia, yes they are shite. I predict that won't change because who the hell wants to relocate down under and besides, the other football codes(Aussie Rules, Rugby League, Rugby Union, not to mention Cricket) are all strong.
Is it safe to say that WC 2030 will be in Uruguay to celebrate the centenary? I'm down, who's coming with? Come help me celebrate my 53rd birthday. Yikes!
Checked the Wikipedia and yes, it appears Italy fans were chanting the Seven Nation Army tune. It's apparently quite popular with many clubs. Pretty cool.
Not the most random fan chant ever, though: That would be Holland and a number of other teams with Pet Shop Boys 'Go West.' Go Figure.
