Day 1, Match 2 Report

Ecuador Unfazed by Poland's Altitude
Ecuador 2 - Poland 0
Now that's a proper World Cup match report title, not like ESPN's corny "Klose Encounter" to describe the Germany match. If you're reading ESPN, I need a job. Oh wait, I hate you and everything you stand for. Scratch that. Anyway, who says Ecuador can only win at high altitude? Coming off their only World Cup win against Croatia in 2002, they've now won two World Cup matches in a row and are in great position to advance to Round 2. Precisely the opposite of their opening match in 2002 which they lost by the same score to Italy.
Player of the Match: Agustin Delgado. Scored one, set up another. Honorable mention goes to the Japanese referee who called a great game.
Huh? Actually commentary from ESPN:
Tommy Smith: I have a feeling this game isn't over yet.
Englishman: Never get between an Irishman and his feelings.
Smith: Depends what those feelings are.
Disappointment of the Match: Poland certainly deserved a goal toward the end when they were denied twice by the post. Poland fans who packed the arena were awfully quiet at the final whistle.
The Fallout: Poland's coach will be dragged over the coals for this result as he was already heavily criticized for his team selection. Poland now need at least a draw against the hated Germans. Ecuador really fancy their chances now, especially if they see of Costa Rica which looks likely given today's performances.
Extra: Three goals on day 1(both of CR's and Ecuador's second) were the result of beaten offside traps. Caveat playor.

Based on the first two games, the referees are not going to call anything (including offsides). This will help European teams in the long run, as many of them are more physical.

Than again, it didn't help Poland any.
